Recently, the Zhongyuan Medical Science City in Zhengzhou's aviation port zone has delivered a significant construction milestone: the International Exchange Centre project, inspired by the national treasure Lotus Crane Vase, has completed all construction tasks and is now officially operational. This addition further enriches Zhengzhou's collection of distinctive cultural landmarks.

The project boasts a total floor area of approximately 139,000 square metres, integrating conference facilities, exhibition spaces, offices and a hotel. This provincial-level key project supports the dual-purpose development of megacities for both routine and emergency use, underpinning high-quality growth across the Central Plains region.

Mr Yu Hang, a representative from the construction contractor China MCC5 Group, explained that the design holistically integrates functional utility with cultural heritage principles, drawing inspiration from the Henan Museum's prized ‘Lotus Crane Square Vase’. The conference centre is conceived as the resource-gathering ‘lotus heart’, while the hotel and ancillary facilities form the supporting ‘lotus leaves’. Viewed from afar, the complex presents a distinctive, harmoniously staggered silhouette with a prominent central core.

During an on-site visit, it was revealed that the ‘lotus’ design incorporates a comprehensive suite of digital construction methodologies employed by the contractor.

To achieve the highest precision in reproducing the blueprints, MCC5 project team employed digital 3D modelling technology for parametric design. This provided precise guidance for steel component production and curtain wall panel fabrication and installation. The curved exterior was deconstructed into standardised units, with each of the 14,000 triangular aluminium panels assigned a unique identification number to ensure error-free on-site installation. The team further employed CNC total station laser correction and machine vision dynamic monitoring technology to achieve millimetre-level precision installation, perfectly realising the ‘lotus’ aesthetic.

Confronted with the challenge of constructing an 82.6-metre span roof structure, the China MCC5 Group project team innovatively employed a ‘ground modular assembly + integrated intelligent lifting’ technique. After assembling the roof trusses on the ground, they utilised a computer synchronisation control system and a cluster of hydraulic equipment to achieve precise, holistic lifting of the roof structure. It is reported that the International Exchange Centre of the Central Plains Medical Science City has successfully facilitated the smooth running of the Third National Skills Competition. Moving forward, it will serve as the newly designated ‘city reception hall’ to host various high-level provincial and municipal conferences and events, injecting fresh vitality into the development of Zhengzhou Airport Economic Zone's ‘Air Silk Road’ initiative and regional coordinated development.
